Thank you for your incredible support for the first-ever Durham Theatre Festival! It was a great success! And, community theatre doesn't stop at the end of the festival. You can experience the thrill of live theatre and see firsthand the exceptional talent of local writers, actors, directors and behind-the-scenes crew year round—all close to home!

When you see a play, you will be supporting the efforts of local actors, writers, set builders, producers, directors and other community-minded individuals who want to share their love of live theatre with the people in their community.

We're hard at work planning the second-annual Durham Theatre Festival and with your help we can enhance the already vibrant theatre culture in Durham Region, increasing awareness of community theatre and creating an appreciation for the arts by making extraordinary theatre experiences accessible to everyone.

WHEN THE GLOBAL ECONOMY TOOK A NOSEDIVE, waves of concern reverberated throughout Durham Region. What did Whitby actor/writer Michael Khashmanian want to do in the face of companies downsizing, people losing their jobs and businesses closing? He decided to throw a party. A very big party called Durham Theatre Festival. While some might think of him as a madman, there is a method to his madness. Michael’s goal is to create a positive cultural and financial impact in Durham Region and to stimulate the remarkable culture of community theatre.
